Benefit for the customer is that the laser beam is guided to jobs optical fiber with special treatment against back reflection. Pulsed lasers are then particularly suitable for accurate cutting, various types of welding and drilling.
The laser environment is most often made up of solids in the form of crystals, oxides, glasses or garnets. Unlike gas lasers, optical excitation is most common here. Effective cooling of the active environment increases the quality of the beam rapidly.
Very usual representative of solid-state lasers is Nd:YAG laser, the active medium consists of a solid crystalline or amorphous YAG ( yttrium – aluminum – garnet) doped with neodymium ions gas – Nd ( Er , Yb ). Thanks to the management of the fiber the use is much more extensive than that of the CO2 laser (cutting, drilling, welding, or the use of a scalpel as a very fine surgical operations).
